v General information:
- Alignment: Ben Thanh (Quach Thi Trang Square) – Pham Ngu Lao – Cong Hoa Roundabout – Hung Vuong – Hong Bang – Kinh Duong Vuong – Tan Kien Depot – Tan Kien Station.
- Total length: 19.8 km.
- Expected investment form: The metro line 3a was registered list of projects using ODA of Japan Government in the period of 2016 – 2018 by HCMC PC (Document No.555/UBND-QLDA dated 19/02/2016).
- This project is seperated into 2 phases for investment:
a) Phase 1 (Ben Thanh – Western Bus Terminal)
- Total length: 10 km underground.
- Number of station: 10 underground stations.
- Depot and workshop at Tan Kien ward, Binh Chanh district with 20.15 ha area.
- Total investment cost (estimated): 1.82 billion USD.
- Implementation progress:
+ HCMC People's Committee has approved the Basic Design. Landmark Profiles were also approved and handed over to the local authorities for planning management.
+ JICA is studying the project. Expected time for submitting Government and National Assembly in order to ask for investment policy is in 2017.
b) Phase 2 (Western Bus Terminal – Tan Kien Station) and Tan Kien Depot
- Total length: 9.9 km (0.6 km underground and 9.3 km elevated).
- Number of station: 7 elevated stations.
- Total estimated investment cost: 1.2 billion USD.
- Implementation progress:
+ Waiting HCMC PC to approve the basic design.
+ Domestic Consultant completed the FS.
+ Currently, MAUR is suggesting JICA to have additional study together with project 3a phase 1.
- Metro line 3a is oriented to extend from Hung Nhon Station (along the national road 1) to Tan An City (Long An province).
